Yesterday, I watched the FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, M.D, M.P.H. announce that the FDA is initiating approval for Leucovorin calcium tablets to help children with cerebral folate deficiency (CFD), a condition where folate doesn’t properly reach the brain. Hearing this announcement immediately made me reflect on my own experience with MTHFR and the impact it had on my family.

Back in July, I shared Part 2 of my blog series, "Lining Up the Suspects: Uncovering the True Cost of Misdiagnosis. This is when I revealed that I’m the real person behind the story I had previously told through a fictitious character. But there’s a piece of that story I didn’t fully unpack at the time — the way my first major misdiagnosis unfolded during my freshman year of college, and the unbelievable irony that shaped the course of my health journey.

Misdiagnosis can happen to anyone—it doesn’t matter if you are highly intelligent, motivated, wealthy, or successful. I know this from experience, and it’s why I started my concierge health advocate practice: to ensure that high-performing, proactive individuals and their families don’t face the same struggle.
